In Memoriam Gift

An In Memoriam Gift allows you to offer your sympathy to those who have lost a loved one, and your donation will be acknowledged to the bereaved family without disclosing the amount of your gift. (When donating on-line, select "In memory of..." to designate your In Memoriam Gift.)

Living Gift

A Living Gift to Fontbonne Ministries offers you the opportunity to honour someone by making a donation to Fontbonne Ministries in their name, providing a thoughtful tribute while offering dignity and hope to someone in need. (When donating on-line, select "In honour of..." to designate your Living Gift.)

Planned Giving

Planned giving is a method of giving made through your will or life insurance policy. It allows you to make a lasting gift while optimizing tax and other financial benefits. Legacy gifts can be gifts such as bequests, life insurance policies, charitable remainder trusts, gifts of residual interests, and gifts of property and RRSP's where the commitment is made now but the funds are not available to Fontbonne Ministries until sometime in the future. The Archdiocese of Toronto also maintains a list of advisors who are available to assist in your estate planning and the preparation of a Will. Please contact us if you require assistance with your planning.

Gifts of Securities

A gift of publicly traded securities "in kind" provides you with an unexpected means to make a significant contribution to Fontbonne Ministries at a relatively low cost. Recent changes by the Canadian Federal Government to the tax on gifts of securities means that by making a gift of equities, bonds and mutual funds to Fontbonne Ministries, your taxable capital gain is eliminated.

Fontbonne Ministries will issue a charitable tax receipt for the fair market value of the gift of securities to be used for tax purposes. This value will be the closing price of the securities on the date they are received.

You can give the gift of securities either during your lifetime or through your estate and receive the same benefit from a tax point of view. You are able to carry forward any donation amount that exceeds your eligible annual tax credit limit for a period of 5 years.

If you have any questions about the various ways that you can donate or would like further information please do not hesitate to contact us.

Fontbonne Ministries offers diverse programs that are welcoming and inclusive. The charity was founded in 2000 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto, a community of women who, through their compassionate presence, respond to various needs. Fontbonne Ministries continues, with the Sisters, their mission of reflecting the love of God and neighbour.

Why Donate?

We are always thinking about the future needs of our ministries. This long-range view has led to important planning so that we can continue to support our programs for many years to come. With over 160 years of service to the community through health care, education and social services, the Sisters have come to rely on the generosity of the broader community to help carry on their tradition of service. The Sisters will remain in ministry as long as feasible, but we will increasingly need this community support to ensure the sustainability of of Fontbonne Ministries.

Since 2000, we have been responding to changing societal needs throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Your donations will enable us to continue to meet these needs and carry on the Sisters’ legacy of service to our neighbours.

Kent, a donor

A Story of Giving

Kent, one of our donors, shares his story of giving. Kent explains that he volunteered with Faith Connections for a year—an experience that enriched him socially and spiritually. Knowing the group needed to become self-sustaining, Kent made a decision to give, saying that “it felt right to give to Faith Connections because the ministry has given me so much.”

For Kent, the best way to give is to do so monthly, through the annual program. This choice makes his giving convenient and effective, ensuring that the timing of payments is planned to coordinate with ongoing personal financial needs.

And because Kent knows and trusts the staff of Fontbonne Ministries, he has confidence that his gift will be carefully stewarded—making a difference to the mission, and in the area of greatest need.
